Publisher's Description

This year’s high season heralds Villa & Yacht’s twentieth issue and the close to our second volume. I was reminiscing over the past volume and realised that it has been two years since we touched base with our favourite yacht photographer Jocelyn Passeron. Regular readers may remember Jocelyn’s fantastic Superyacht images showcased in Volume two, Issue two. Well I’m pleased to welcome back Jocelyn and showcase a selection of images from the yachts he’s been shooting since we last met up in Thailand (page 20). It was also in the second issue of this volume that photographer Arvid Nicolas joined our team of stylists to create a fashion shoot aboard Sailing Yacht Polaris. It was a match made in heaven and the team has gone from strength to strength, devising fabulously themed editorial showcasing fashion from Bali’s top designers in residence, amongst the splendour of the island’s best villas and aboard the region’s most luxurious yachts. Needless to say we’ve had a lot of fun along the way and the shoots have become the talk of the town. This issue’s style editorial, our ninth with Arvid, took us to the Ayana Villa at the Ayana Resort & Spa, Bali – the resort formally known as The Ritz Carlton. At US$8000++ a night it is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive residences on the Island of the Gods. Sitting in the hot tub with panoramic views over the Bukit cliff edge, one could be forgiven for feeling as if you had indeed died and gone to heaven (page 30). Canadian travel writer Michael Buckley has also become a regular contributor in Volume two. This issue he escorts us on an intriguing journey deep into the mountainous regions of Bhutan in search of the rare Blue Poppy (page 44). It’s not all old hands though; making his Villa & Yacht writing debut is the incognito Salvador Bali, who appropriately brings us an interview with the acclaimed artist Ashley Bickerton and finds out why the likes of Damien Hurst are regularly frequenting our local establishments (page 48). Bali is definitely developing, not only with new luxury properties a plenty, but in the way it’s becoming a cosmopolitan melting pot, attracting the world’s leading figures in the contemporary arts. Whilst the world in engulfed in economic crisis, Bali continues to thrive and attract international investment – while pessimists may say it will take a year or so until we feel the knock on effect, I’m confident with a rocking high season we can keep on rolling. I’d like to thank all our advertisers for their continued support and remind company owners that it is important to advertise in the good times; however it is imperative to advertise in the challenging times. All the best for a prosperous high season from everyone at Villa & Yacht.
