Last year, I shared our excitement over the release of our inaugural Cuvée Collection from the 2005 vintage. This collection of three limited-edition red varietal blends—Suendero, Signature and Syrée—was conceived as the “best of the best” of the Vina Robles portfolio. Now, the 2006 Cuvée Collection is poised for release, starting with the 2006 Suendero, which was just named “Grand Champion Best of Show” at the 2009 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Wine Competition. This is a major event spanning more than 1,800 wines from nearly 600 wineries, so to be named the top wine of the competition is a tremendous honor. To us, this award is further validation of our growing emphasis on blends. Simply put, we believe that the finest quality is achieved through blending. This belief is rooted in our European winemaking heritage, as well as our freedom in California to take non-traditional paths in the pursuit of synergy and complexity in our wines. We are going a bit against the grain with this approach. Some of our blends are quite sophisticated, and it’s rare for a winery to have multiple blends at the top of its portfolio. Still, the path less traveled is often a path worth taking. We invite you to join us on this journey by experiencing our Cuvée Collection.
