Dear Readers September is a month I associate with new beginnings. During the summer months many people slip into relaxation mode whether they go on holiday or not, but as soon as autumn arrives they seem to experience a surge of energy and get back into action. There’s no doubt the next few months ahead are going to be difficult and spending cuts by central and local Government are beginning to bite. With this fact in mind David Lammy, Labour MP for Tottenham has added his voice to the debate on David Cameron’s concept of the Big Society. Writing in this month’s Keep The Faith he argues the state has a major role to play in eradicating inequality and supporting work carried out by churches. Church leader Rev Wale Hudson-Roberts adds his views on the The Big Society stating it offers black church leaders exciting opportunities to engage with local communities on a greater scale. Keeping things topical Rev David Shosanya writes that it is time for African, African-Caribbean and Asian communities to work together whilst more closer to home Rachel K Brown gives tips on an issue many people experience – that of dealing with badly behaved teenagers. Gladys Famoriyo shares how God can and does speak to us through everyday activities whilst Stephen Brooks writes about the seemingly forgotten church doctrine of repentance. There’s also useful how to articles about building meaningful relationships, utilising web tools to increase the effectiveness of your church, business and charity and managing church volunteers.
