About 150 curved apotropaic wands [including fragments] have been found, mainly dating to the Middle Kingdom, and occasionally to Dynasty 13. They are usually made of hippopotamus ivory. The inscriptions and imagery imply that these wands were used to benefit women and children, particularly at times of birth and early childhood. 30 pages, 1.3MB
